JUNCTURE // NEWARK, NJ
Educational // Vocational School
Juncture takes the abundance of empty shipping containers, and transforms them into a mobile vocational school. The containers are turned into classrooms and work shops for the students to learn different construction trades. The classrooms are brought on site to one of Newark’s many abandoned buildings, where the students will learn their trade in the classroom and apply their newly learned skills to renovate the building on-site.
This program is geared towards ex high school students who have dropped out due to financial hardships and encourages them to enroll by paying them for work completed on the building. Typical high school classes are woven into the curriculum so the students can earn both a GED and valuable trade experience. The goal is to educate the under privileged youth, through rejuvenating their own down-trotted neighborhoods.
